It is a bit unrealistic ... but that doesn't bother me. It's kind of dreamy! :-) I love Venice, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to many of your lovely shots of the city. But I really like this. The curved line of the canal leads the eye into the picture. The couple of gondolas traversing the canal add interest. The colors and lines in the buildings along the canal are wonderful. I like it! Was it taken FROM the Rialto bridge?

I don't mind the artificiality of some photos, but in this one, the colors don't seem to go with the mood of the photo - they are too distracting. The multi-hued sky in particular, draws your attention away from what I think should be the focus - the buildings and the gondola at the center of the photo...

Christina- I love this!!! This looks like a painting, very cool. The colors are glorious and the subject matter......well it speaks for itself! Maybe you'll satisfy the crtitics,,, I see a gondola, and sunshine (hehe). You have a wonderful sense for the dramatic. Good one!

It is a very good try, and I rather like it. It could, however, be improved. I find the launches in the foreground a little obtrusive. Perhaps moving the camera a couple of yards north could improve the composition. There are a couple of things that I find a little jarring. Firstly, the camera was not level. Because of my profession, I have developed a very sharp eye for that sort of thing, although in Venice you can never be certain it might be too much grappa, or the building really was leaning. I think you will find that rotating the image about 1.5° counter clockwise gets it about straight. The main problem, though, is that the perspective of the clouds is completely different from the rest of the image. They need to be shot with a much wider lens to get them to match. Carry on trying, though. If you practice enough, you will find that you can stitch the sky on without the join showing. I have an example at www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=1825464, but the clouds are slightly too close as well.

Thanks for your comment, you are the first person that understood what I was thinking for.

This day I was in Venice there was a pale sun and a pale sunset and I thought myself: shame I can't take a great shot! Then looking at PN I realized I could make that shot as I wanted so I have tried. But I have never thought about selling these kind of images. Do you think it will work?

It works for me on almost all levels. Maybe I'm wrong I dunno, but the clouds seem out of scale to me. I have certainly seen clouds this large, etc. but at that distance it just feels a little off. Personally, I love the color though.

Venice is burning..The cumulus clouds look too much like smoke, even being divided by the canal/river, as if the fire were on both sides..I dont therefore think the surreal idea works, but the real fireglow does. Very realistic...Lucky the fire boats have lotsa water to put it out...I must have missed the report of the fire on SewerNN TV.

Yes, its a bit unrealistic but it is still a beautiful work of art! There are so many "real" photos of Venice that try to compete for the best angle with the best lighting. This lets me see it through your eyes, mind, and I'm guessing heart. Keep it up!

you could sell your work! paint a bunch of your shots as you like, especially this type. then take them around to photography agents in your town. let them flog them for you. OR... print some on an artsy kind of paper, and take them to small poster/print shops and see if they will put them up in their windows. i'll bet you would be discovered in no time. depending on the size, you could sell them as signed limited editions. or when you get famous, you could do limited edition lithographs, and sell them worldwide. but first start small and do it locally. if you don't want to lay out tooo much money, simply show the two that i have seen, and see what the vendors think.

what i do with my exhibitions, is print only ten 11X14's and sell them at $250 Canadian per copy.

yours are decidedly more sellable than mine.

go for it!

Very strange landscape...impressive, also if I don't know if I definitely love it, there are maybe too strong changes.

Cristina I've been impressed with your Venice photos. Whenever I've been there the sun has shone and as a result anything taken at any time other than early morning or late evening has harsh shadows. So maybe the cloudy weather served you well. Love all the detail in this shot, the launches, gondolas, waterbus landing stages - the lot.

if you do a search by rating for a week, BOTH your Venice pictures show up on the first page. do you think we photonetzians are trying to tell you something? you are an artist... show your work... your passion could become your life.

i am being persistent in my persuasion, because i LOVE this shot, and i think there are many more in you.

Thank you for your nice comments so much. But as I wrote before this has been my first trial and I somehow feel there's so much to do before introducing myself as a professionist to an agent since I am a true beginner. And then here at home nobody seem to believe that I might have any sort of talent, which doesn't help. I wish you were right, anyway thanks again.

Although the sky may seem overdone, I really like the painterly look to the buildings, water and boats. This really is worth pursuing.

Thanks for sharing, and consider these comments helpful or rubbish as you see fit.
