gary ell 0 Posted June 26, 2001 my eye is confused here. The boat seems to draw me in as the focal point, not necessarily a bad thing. I am trying to determine the ball boucing kid's relationship to the boat. Link to comment
vuk_vuksanovic 0 Posted June 27, 2001 Gary. Let me help you out ;-) The elements in this photo acheive an elegant, yet elastic and unforced balance, mirroring the casual leisure of a sea-side vacation, which is what ties the girl in bathing suit with ball to the boat. Link to comment
jaq 0 Posted June 27, 2001 Well, Gary, the relationship between the girl and the boat lies in the identity of time and space: they were at the same time in the eye of the camera. :) Actually I was trying a 80/200 lens, sitting at a café, it was a cloudy day and the girl was not able to bounce twice the ball to the wall, so I had no time nor will to wait for a better moment. Nevertheless, after processing and printing, I have been happy with the resulting image. There is no other reason for that composition. Thanks. giacomo Link to comment
kpo 0 Posted June 28, 2001 I like the balance, the movement, the "point in time" and the palette of grays. I find this an unusual and pleasing image. We can probably agree on one point: it is the rare image that causes one to choose to stop and look for more than a few seconds. It's been my experience that the vast majority of photos (my own included!) cannot claim this distinction. Link to comment
vittorio 0 Posted September 8, 2002 Complimenti per entrambe le foto che hai pubblicato. ... non ti curar di lor...dopotutto sono solo americani! Link to comment
jaq 0 Posted October 30, 2002 this has been -if I remember well- my first photo published here, before the new comment and rating rules. it has not been visited since a long time, and I have a special affection for this picture. comments appreciated. thanks, g Link to comment
morey_kitzman 0 Posted October 30, 2002 Not clear how the two elements of the image work together, boat and girl. The palm tree on the right needs to be more or less. The picture has nice textures, I think it needs to say more. Ciao, da un Italo-Americano. Link to comment
nomade 1 Posted August 3, 2003 What I don't get here is the people trying to find a relationship between the boat and the girl... Absurd!! If they would only put a hand over the boat, and leave only the girl, they would find that *such* a view wouldn't make sense. For me this has some HCB reminiscense. Obviously, the new rating system didn't favored this image. Maybe you should repost it. Link to comment
jaq 0 Posted August 4, 2003 Oh, Nestor, thank you for your nice comment, but your suggested HCB reminiscence is quite embarassing to me. As I explained above on how this image was taken, it's been more casual than composed. The two "elements" were at the border of the frame while I was zooming my new -at that time- 80/200 one or two days after its purchase - I never had a zoom before, so I had to familiarise with it. I spent many frames in such experimental way, and this only seemed to me worth watching more than on a contact sheet. Thanks again. g Link to comment
John Peri 1,038 Posted February 24, 2014 What I fixed on first, in difference to a comment further up, is the action of the child caught in motion .. I love the overall design and the dynamics that contrast so well with the surroundings. Excellent, bravo. Link to comment
