Cliche, well sunsets, skyscrapers, and unclothed sirens also are cliches. I like the colors and DOF very much. My wife was a ballet dancer for many years and this nicely captures a moment at the barre, in my opinion anyway. Thanks. Also thanks much for your feedback on one of my photos.

Where did you take this?

I can't quite put my finger on this one. I've tried different croppings, and

they don't work well. What's here is full frame. The black on the left is

caused by a support beam for the 30 foot picture windows in the studio.

It was taken with a Sigma 80-200mm f2.8 lens on a Nikon D100 at

150mm, f2,8 and 1/50th.

Toby,

I like what you said. I guess I was selecting her...at least that's what the contact sheet reveals...but we don't have to talk about that do we? I never really looked at it like that, it's interesting that I'm so transparent.

Too bad she has a boyfriend.

The selective focus works well. The person youve focused on also happens to be wearing a different color shift, which is nice.

Although the composition and selective focus is good, when I look at the large size image, it is obvious that the subject that is in focus is blurry. How slow was your shutter speed?

Elliot,

You are the winner of the prize for perception! No one ever really gives critique here, I'm glad someone spotted it, I was beggining to lose faith!

Yes, it's shot at 1/50th at 150mm (equiv 225 on a D100) and is thus a touch out. Fortunately, they only wanted a small sized image and it didn't really matter.

Now, if only Nikon could make a larger view screen.

I think that, compositionally, this is the best shot you have posted online right now. The blur isn't that awful, given the settings you were shooting at. Too bad it really isn't printable at a large size though.

You can get pretty good results reducing high ISO noise with programs like neatimage, so especially when you're shooting digital, I think the best bet is often to jack the ISO up if you have to, and then fix it later.

I think the LCD screen on my friend's D2h looked bigger than my D100 screen, but not significantly bigger. Much bigger screens would suck up a lot more battery power, I'm sure. They would also be more expensive and might be more delicate (maybe?). It is pretty easy to zoom in to view your images at a larger size on the d100, if you want/need to, though.

Ya. I like neatimage. I have also heard of a program called "noise ninja." I am unaware of any noise reduction utilities currently available for apple users. I used to be scared of jacking the ISO up, I guess, but it really isnt that bad, and programs like neatimage can really help.
