Ice Berg from LeConte Glacier, Alaska

When I first saw this image I passed it over but then I found myself coming back to it. I think the colors are mesmerizing.

I like this because it causes my mind to do a flip. I start seeing it as a macro shot of some ice from a few inches and then the scale dawns on me and it's a huge iceberg. That mind flip makes for a good photo, imho. Or maybe a flipped mind?

 

Lou Ann - Wonderfully atmospheric - it really seemed like a sepia-toned monochrome with cleverly retouched ice! The background has hints of green if you look hard. Without the ice it would suggest to me a 19th cent. picture of a Scottish Highland glen. I've never seen glacial ice so blue.

Cool !!! ... that covers it on several levels!

 

the thumbnail didn't look like much... but viewed large... it just floors me. Very unique one of a kind shot Lou Ann!

I think the color in this photograph is what really makes it special. The great translucency of that aquamarine berg set against the brown and white in the background is very nice. Regards.

I'm still amazed at the reception of this image! Although I'm sure that I'm too late, as this post may not receive much more attention, I'd like to point out my favorite glacier/berg photo to date at PN: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo.tcl?photo_id=2012333. It's amazing!! (And his blues are real, too!)

This is a really neat shot! It's like someone took some food coloring to a portion of a sepia toned print. Lovely capture!

Yes the ice does turn that blue and even more intense here in Alaska. This is a good shot because the sepia look of the background makes it so. It bring the forground into high relife and the forground water color showing a bit of brown and blue gives the image that extra punch it needs. Its great that you caught the colors as true. But it would be just as well to have speia toned the background in PS as well. Aleast to me as I turn more to an impressionistc view in photography. I would have burned in the edges and made the image darker with lots of dodging and burning going on. If I get time I will show you what I mean. best wishes, PS: Well I took a little time to play with your image as if it were mine. I do this with respect to your work and my way is not the only way. But you asked me to look over your work. On this image I used color balance and brightness and contrast tools to work on different areas of the image with the lasso tool. I hope you find what I did interesting, Dennis. Can not seem to add your image I worked on to my comments. We could do that before I will send it by email if I can
