This was one of my first "serious" photos and still one of my

favorites, though I think I like the idea of this shot more than the

shot itself. I wish the little tree were more sharp and that it

didn't blend so much into the background. But I am interested to

hear what you think about it. Thanks.

Very nice, did you use a filter to get such a nice reflection in the water, is that shot on or near the tree line, or just a nice open area?

Andrew - thanks for the comment. I did not use a filter for this shot - in fact, at the time all I owned was the P3 and the 50mm lens. I do not think that this was near the tree line - just an open area in Yosemite (near the southern end, if I remember right).

i read your question about the 2/2 ratings without comments, and I'll leave comments here, because I felt this image had the most potential. I see a bunch of reasons why you get low ratings/no comments:

-poor scans/ image processing. I've attached this image with a little work. I think you need to work on your photoshop techniques more. alot of your images have color casts and marginal contrast. fixing these will make your images stand out more and be taken more seriously.

-you need to be more critical of your images and look into cropping more. this is a good case in point. you have alot of images with the trademark "novice" blown-out sky. That type of image will never impress anyone. In this image, what is the sky doing for the image? nothing. crop it out. this can be said for alot of images, not just yours. there is no rule that the sky has to be in every lanscape image.

-stay away from cliches. alot of your landscape/nature images have really cliched visualizations, such as the "sillhouetted land mass with vivid sunset sky," the "wooden stairs leading out of the frame," and the "old wooden fence with sky." everyone has seen these before, and you need to challege yourself to try more imaginative images.

sorry to be brutally honest, but hopefully these suggestions will help you in the future.
