keith_jorgensen 0 Posted July 20, 2001 Nice shot. It is nice because of the contrast between the pinnacle in the foreground with the mountains in the background. Also, the white cloud helps the viewer see the human element, which supplies a sense of scale. Brighter sunlight would have added impact to the scene but you very well handled that with which you had to work . Link to comment
tony_zipple1 0 Posted August 13, 2001 I just got back from 3 weeks in the Andes and I really like photos like this. They remind me of the scale of the rock when compared to a single person. That comparison is humbling and it is a big part of the reason that I like to climb. Thanks for sharing a classic. Link to comment
michael abbott 0 Posted September 15, 2001 The wonderful thing about the Alps is that views like this are accessible to ordinary people - this one is from one of the viewing platforms of the Aig du Midi cable-car station, an hour or so's ride from the centre of Chamonix, and the figure is at the top of a popular rock route. Does knowing that this isn't the remote wilderness it appears to be detract from the picture? I'm sure we each have our own views on that one. I do feel we should always make it clear what context pictures were taken in, to allow the viewer to judge. That said, I don't think any of my pictures of this scene are as good as this (I spent a few days up there in July.) The cloud and the figure are perfectly timed, well done. Link to comment
eugbro 2 Posted September 21, 2001 Pretty nice shot. I assume it is not a self-portrait using a timer. Link to comment
ovidiu moise 0 Posted September 22, 2001 Michael, you got the localization perfectly. Eugene, my timer goes up to about 30 sec. I am not that fast, man... ;o) Link to comment
michael abbott 0 Posted March 9, 2002 OK, I got mine scanned etc at last (I commented above.) Here's a not-as-nice view from the same place and a view of the same pillar from the other side. Link to comment
