Circus - Make-up

While studying in the UK, I took a job in Great Yarmouth (summer

1988). I did not shoot much during that summer (only did 3

outtings).. A visit to the circus was one of the 3..

 

Although I had the negatives developed during that time I did not

print the photos until a couple of weeks back.. The image has always

been on my mind and fresh in memory.. now the print has finally

arrived... Your critiques and opinions are most welcome.. thanks.

I like your inclusion of what appears to be the circus ring in the background, this gives the photo context. I also like your choice of B+W for this - first instincts would say "colour" to tie in with the 'fantasy' theme of the circus, but the B+W takes away the glitz and leaves a more human feel for the performers. Nice job.

Andrew many thanks for your kind comments. Yes, at the background is the circus ring. Back then I used to shoot a lot of colour film and very little B&W. For some reason I decided to shoot B&W for that night, which as you said, allowed for a completely different interpretation. -- Many thanks -- Marios
