baldurbirgis 0 Posted January 22, 2004 John, this is a great capture, good colors and composition. Is the bird sitting on a branch? Link to comment
jbrand 0 Posted January 23, 2004 Thanks for commenting Baldur. The bird is clinging to the rind of a grapefruit half that was impaled on a short stub of tree branch. Link to comment

kazuya 0 Posted December 27, 2007 Nice colors and a very good sharpness. Fine composition and good with the catch-light in the eye. Link to comment
erikadams 0 Posted December 27, 2007 Here's a vote for only allowing those with portfolios to post critiques. Enough said about that. This image's strengths are its strongly contrasting colors and sharpness. The composition is not optimal, but still good. One interesting thing is that the photo shows you just how light these birds are, as the grapefruit slice is not deformed under its weight. Link to comment
krisphotography 0 Posted December 27, 2007 super sharp. super colors and super subject. Congrats. Link to comment
chandrasekharan_p.v. 0 Posted December 28, 2007 AS LONG AS THE PICTURE IS NOT DIGITALLY MADE UP,IT SHOULD BE ONE OF THE SHARPEST BIRD PICTURES.IT STILL AMAZES HOW THE BIRD IS PERCHED SO FIRMLY ON A PIECE OF ORANGE STUCK TO THE TREE SNAG. P.V.CHANDRASEKHARAN 28-12-07 Link to comment
alex_p._schorsch 0 Posted August 3, 2008 Nice saturation and nice detail in the feathers. Maybe a fill flash would have brought the eye out better but maybe a fill flash would have wrecked the photo as well. Tell me, which lens did you use? Link to comment
christian_stocker 0 Posted August 3, 2008 Wonderful capture! The colours are superb, very crisp and sharp composition. Link to comment
paul_de_ley 21 Posted August 4, 2008 Wonderful colors, lightning and sharpness! I agree that the dark background blob is a bit distractive (what IS it...?) but if we could all always choose our backgrounds then we'd probably all end up imitating each other all the time :) Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted August 4, 2008 I just can't think of enough superlatives for this image! The bright red of the grapefruit and vivid colors of the bird are amazing! Link to comment
jbrand 0 Posted August 19, 2008 Thanks very much for your comments! The lens was Canon's 75-300 IS. It is my preferred lens for birding, since it is light and no tripod is required. Off-hand shooting is so much easier for birds. I really do not remember the origin of the dark blob! I was simply concentrating on the bird! Link to comment
