The morning after a late summer snowstorm, my friend Mark Oatney and I woke a few minutes before this scene.
Although the temperature was hovering at about 12 degrees Fahrenheit and we'd been on the Muir trail for five days already, no amount of cold or fatigue could keep me in the tent while this scene was unfolding.
