A mid-summer evening's dream
The dew was already forming on the grass - refreshing after the heat of the afternoon. The passing deer didn't notice us until I stood up to take the photo – then it stopped in a perfect pose for a moment before running off.
Taken after a picnic beside a stream in what was then (1971) a quiet field next to an almost disused railway line near Kemsing, Kent, UK - now it has the M25 motorway ¼ mile from it so the magical evenings there may be lost forever!
As usual, I now wish I had taken many more photos that day but at the time I did not realise quite how privileged I was to be able to enjoy these Déjeuner sur l'herbe-type events in out-of-the-way places we discovered. I am so pleased I had my camera with me to capture this moment at least.
