may be try a closer crop? what is the motive of the picture?

I guess as with any photograph, the motivation is visual.

 

Sorry people, I know this may not be a masterpiece, and everyone has a right to their opinion, but the fact that a string of 10 of you gave this photo an aesthetic grade no higher than a 4 is fairly amazing to me. I don't live and die by these grades by any means. I ask for critiques because I find it interesting to see how people respond to particular images, and to see which ones have a wide appeal. While I don't expect such a response for this photo, the consensus on it, nevertheless, tells me that a large portion of people on photonet are lacking in visual sophistication as it relates to photography. Have the vast majority of you gone no further than a Popular Photography aesthetic??

..(And, several minutes later)... Yeah, well, now that I've examined each of your own "visions"... it doesn't seem I was far off the mark. The answer to my last question is a resounding... NO!

Ray, I'd get closer to the machine and frame just the machine and my shadow. Im not sure it could be done but I think that's what I'd do anyway if I was there. SO that as if I was communicating with the machine...

 

A sophisticated image, not widely appreciated, but you must have expected that?
