Torre Astura Sea Castle
The history of Torre Astura spans centuries and different eras, from the time of Cicero to the present day. The tower is one of the various fortifications of the Lazio coast, 10 km from the town of Nettuno, part of the metropolitan city of Rome, but for its characteristics and peculiarities it really represents a unicum of its kind. History of Torre Astura: Roman era I century BC The history of the fortress and its tower dates back to the first century BC the century of Cicero; it is thought that at that time the fortress was part of the village on the aforementioned Via Severiana, which connected the city of Portus with Terracina. The castle of Torre Astura, still visible today, was then made up of two parts, joined together by a bridge. One part on the mainland, and another island, located on an artificial island. The description of the place is partly thanks to the writings of Cicero, which suggest that he had lived in that castle, then later modified.
