FranzWeber 368 Posted June 16, 2022 Josef Pauels (1885-1979) was a member of the Kevelaer artists' colony. In May 2005, the city of Kevelaer published a city map "Artists in Kevelaer" showing former artist houses. These houses also received information signs. Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted June 18, 2022 Hi Franz, the Kevelaer artists' colony was not unfamiliar to me (as I visited Kevelaer and Nordrhein-Westfalen as a child), but I had never heard of Josef Pauels, who, as I understand, was a landscape painter. On the sign with his image he looks somewhat lost; I guess he wasn't the most successful of artists. Kevelaer was of interest to my dad who was a historian who was highly interested in the Middle Ages and pilgrimages. I would have preferred to see a museum with paintings and other art forms of this colony. Your photo and comments are informative and have triggered a memory, thanks for that. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
FranzWeber 368 Posted June 18, 2022 Vincent, thank you for your interesting comment. I found the following on the Internet: "I inherited 2 pictures from my grandfather that he received as wages for heating work in the Pauels house and I would like to know what they are worth?" This might confirm your theory that ihe wasn't very successful and couldn't pay for the heating work. Best regards, Franz Link to comment
