Kamala 398 Posted May 28, 2021 They have emerged from underground after 17 years, in droves! The buzzing sound is so very loud, I couldn't hear song birds. Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted May 28, 2021 Hi Kamala, beautiful photo! The shallow DoF and the OoF bgreen background work very well here. This is clearly one of the American cicada species. Here in Europe we have another cicada species (the orni) that lives underground for 'only' a few years. Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
puce 1 Posted May 29, 2021 Delightful pic! My yard is full of them now as well. Their singing comes & goes in waves. I have been taking some of these with a humble iPhone - it does surprisingly good macros. -Aina Link to comment
Kamala 398 Posted May 29, 2021 Hi Vincent, Thank you for the compliments! Out of several cicada pictures I clicked, this was the best to share. Hopefully I can get more pictures... Such rare phenomena. Interesting there are variety of Cicadas. 17 years is too long to live underground ;-) B/R Kamala Link to comment
Kamala 398 Posted May 29, 2021 Thank you, Aina. I am new to the region and was wondering where I could find them. They are all over! When I went on this trail, the sound was so loud I was wondering whatever happened to these "crickets" today! Then it flashed that it was Cicada time, and then i could find them everywhere. After an hour or so, the trail went silent again! B/R Kamala Link to comment
