Light Trails and Moonlight, Vallecito, Ca, 2003

lunarlight

Straight moonlight image. A remote timer was used to allow me to drive the car through a circuit to make the light trails in the image. Exposure determined using propriatary methods - see my web site for details (http://home.earthlink.net/~kitathome/LunarLight/index.html)

This is a straight time-lapse photograph made under moonlight

conditions in the middle of the night. The camera was set up

with a Cannon remote timer, programmed to open the shutter

after 2 minutes, and then give an exposure of 5 minutes 32

seconds af f/7.1. The exposure time was determined using

propriatary methods that tell me how much moonlight I have to

work with. The light level at the time was LV=-3.31. After the

remote timer was started, I walked down to the car and then

drove around the circuit to produce the light trails using the car

running lights. The Provia 100F film works very well in such

circumstances. For more info on the techniques used, including

the reciprocity failure correction for this film, see my web site

You really do have this down to a science; the exposure is spot on. I visited your site and will spend more time later, but I do have one question:

How come you don't use your turn signals or warning lights? :-)

(You might enjoy my 'light painting' folder.)

I like this shot very much. Very well done.

Perhaps you should try this again. Driving closer to the camera next time would have a even greater visual impact.
