An old photo of an even older car, a Peugeot 203. Shot handheld with a Praktica MTL 3 and a Pentacon 50 mm 1.8 lens.

This photo is probably from 1983. It was shot on Ilford FP 4 negative film with a Praktica MTL 3, which was my first 'serious' camera, with the Pentacon 50 mm 1.8 lens, that wasn't bad at all. I photographed the negative with a Canon EF 100 mm 2.8 macro lens (I didn't have a scanner yet). The image shows the 'nose' of a Peugeot 203 familiale from -I believe- 1955. A friend of mine brought classic French cars from France to the Netherlands to restore and sell them. Sometimes he had to remake parts that were no longer available himself. He often found these cars on farms, in sheds, sometimes overgrown by plants. Unfortunately I have no photo of how this car 'turned out'. Your comments are very welcome.

I saw a really nice one on Classic Trader for about 50,000 Euro, Vincent. They sure are beautiful cars. You definitely captured one of the best parts. Excellent details on the badge and the lighting is perfect bringing out the striations so beautifully. The trim on the hood looks great to it. Fantastic presentation and composition. Best regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,

thank you for your interesting and appreciative comments! This car has a very bold appearance and I tried to capture the essence of that quality in this image. Kind regards, Vincent

I had once upon a time experience with Praktica PLC3 and the very same lens, Vincent! That's a razor sharp lens and Praktica wasn't at all less serious than its rivals on the west. Kudos for the "scanning" result! The photo itself is a beautiful reminder of the good old times, 1955 is the year of my birth and I eagerly want to get back, ha! My sincere compliments, my friend! Hi Pierre,

thank you for your friendly and personal comments! As someone roughly from the same generation (born in 1961) I understand your wish to get back very well :) Kind regards, Vincent
