philmorris 0 Posted December 2, 2003 During an aimless wander on Sunday I stumbled into a bunch of radio controlled model aeroplane enthusiasts, yapping about what they would like for Christmas. I spent most of the time photographing the moment a plane flew past a controller. But none of these shots caught what I considered to be their aspirations. They were just common action stills. I took one of a plane in the air. This one. I think this shot contains something about their dreams for Christmas. Link to comment
philip_hartlieb 0 Posted December 2, 2003 i really like how you have taken what could have been just another airshow shot and worked it up in the direction of semiabstraction. i like the grain, light, and sat. here. Link to comment

philmorris 0 Posted December 3, 2003 I know that super grain isn't everyone's cup of tea. But I've been playing around with this stuff recently. Just to see and get a feel for it. And you're seeing pickies where I think it may have worked. Grain can somehow operate as a veiled curtain between reality and imagination. Dreams don't usually come with all the fine details for you to examine. So I'm pleased to read Philip's reference to "direction of abstraction", though there's no increase in saturation; it's all Konica's (my first ever roll of 800 and my first roll of anything by Konica). And Philip, the plane is a big kid's toy. I'm glad you share the Christmas connection Doug. Hearing them talk so passionately about bits of kit they were looking forward to getting, then watching the controller and following his gaze to the plane, I got to thinking here was a six foot tall Buzz Lightyear wannabe, in long trousers and a waxed overcoat, dreaming of infinity and beyond.
