Rialto Beach in Pink Mist

laurence_smith2

I waited for the sun to come up, and for just a few minutes the light turned pink as the rising sun shone through some low clouds. There was a lot of mist in the air from the wind blowing the tops off the waves, and this made a nice effect of softening parts of the bouncing surf, while the rest caught various "spotlights" of sunshine. The pastel pink looked nice, to me, against the steel blue of the foreground outwash.A woman came running down to the log I was standing on, shouting "Everything is pink!"Cropped, applied a very small amount of USM. Colors are true to the scene.

I like the gradient of colors and how they wrap back around to the original hue from bottom to top. Colors are fabulous. I would maybe have turned the camera so the center was in the valley between the island and mainland, -OR- turned it more out to see. I don't like the island being in the center, but not quite in the center.

It is a very good balance soft pastel colours. I think a tighter crop without the beach (just below the crashing waves) could work as well.

Laurence, this is such a nice capture of pinks and purples. You can really see the mist rising off the waves and the detail of the outbound surf eddies. I've never been to Rialto, but I've heard that it is a wonderful place to visit. I see a difficult cropping problem with this image. The compositional balance is heavy to the left, with the islands forming the bulk of the darker tones. Yet, if you substantially crop the right side, you loose the wonderful stream of water running from the sand to the surf at the bottom of the shot. My, oh my, what to do? I know - another trip out there is called for! Perfection demands it's price. :-)
