Introspection

davewatkins

A PS combination of three photos. Night photography is a new experience for me. I find it very intriguing.

Art in the truest sense of the word, I would be proud of this one if I where you!!!

He is not alone, as we all have experienced the loathing of our souls. But he who can capture that emotion so vividly is obviously talented.

.... why so much framing? Please don't take this as a personal slight, this photo can stand on its own without the additions, and I understand it enhances the presentation. But I think its valid point on a lot of work on PHOTO.net. For a gallery, yes. For a forum, no. One man's humble opinion.

Depth in the composition, deep in thought, deep in the woods...poetic art, a very special presentation. The color is what works most for me, the tonal shadings are awesome. Very, very good work to my eye. Thanks.

Thank you all for the comments. They are much appreciated.

In response to John Timlins question why so much framing?:

I cant speak for other folks but my reason for framing this image was due to the effects of simultaneous

contrast. In an effort to more greatly enhance the subtle tonality in this image I chose a dark surround as opposed to the default white surround here on photo.net

honestly, the layered effects are heavy-handed, as is the color cast (never have I seen the color of "jaundice" so perfectly rendered!) and the framing. the viny branches call attention to themselves. the gentleman looks like an apparition. and the lighting effect is contradictory. there's a shadow of the large tree in front of the man that conflicts with the placement of the faux glow-sun. the actual lighting is coming from the left. strive for simplicity and consistency. still, it is quite creative and reasonably effective.

This image evokes a wonderful introspective mood. A man resting on the path of life to contemplate - yet there is light, suggesting he hasn't lost his way.. but he's also not completely out of the woods yet :-) Technically, the only nit would be that the textures are overlapping on his body which I don't think works.. even if your intent is to make him appear somewhat ghostly, I would still try to remove the textures from his body. Other than that, I really like what you've communicated with this photo. Good work.
