Le Poët-Laval is a small village (with about a thousand inhabitants) in the Drôme department, not far from Dieulefit. The first settlers in this high place were the 'hospitaliers' of the order of Saint John of Jerusalem, who built a castle and a chapel on the rocky hill in the beginning of the 13th century. The buildings were fortified in the 14th century, which proved to be necessary in the many wars of religion that followed in the next centuries, but was besieged many times nevertheless. Some of the remaining walls are very old. I made this photo with the bright morning sun just shining over one of these walls. Your comments are very welcome.

I particularly like the angle of the shot, Vincent. With the trees bordering on both sides it directs your eyes to the wall. The backlight creates an air of mystery that blankets the wall. The light on the other side beckons you to go and see what is there. A great looking image that captivates your imagination. Best regards, Paul.
