stephen_jones27 0 Posted June 14, 2019 I love this! The high contrast is perfect. But there are some many middle tones in the sand. The middle tones in the distance are perfect. I find the vignetting to be distracting. Link to comment
Ken Ratcliffe 104,844 Posted June 15, 2019 Stephen, thank you for your visit and comprehensive comment. Vignetting does seem a subjective feature and in this case a feature I was unsure about. Best regards Ken. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted June 15, 2019 Ken,with one exception, I'm limiting my comments to responding to Stephen's. First, I don't understand how vignetting can be distracting. In my opinion, it's effective or it's not, or it's too heavy-handed. I don't see either (or both) of these potential issues in this image. I'm equally baffled by the observation that "there are some many middle tones in the sand." Why can't there be midtones in the sand as well as elsewhere? To me, one of the hallmarks of a successful b&w image is a comprehensive range of grayscale tones; this image succeeds in that respect. Finally, I love the effect the silhouetted boat and human figures provide. - - My best, michael Link to comment
