ivan colman 0 Posted November 24, 2003 Lou Ann, This is a very intriguing self portrait. If You ask me it appears to be the most personal of the four You 've posted here. It is a classic portrait, but it has a very special intensity. Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted November 24, 2003 I think you look great in this photo! This is the one! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 25, 2003 A very pleasant self-portrait that reflects the personality. Very good definition too. Link to comment
mike_hodson 0 Posted November 25, 2003 This is a very nice portrait. Well done. It looks a bit grainy though...is that from the scan? or a tight crop maybe? Link to comment
ljk 0 Posted November 26, 2003 I give you credit, Lou Ann for attempting self portraiture. I don't think it is an easy thing. It is not only logistics, but concept that comes into play. How do we want to portray ourselves? What would convey our personality to the viewer. We both know Rita can do it well, but this portait goes deep, too. I hope you continue to work on exploring this theme. Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted November 26, 2003 I like this self portrait but started to think about how I would finish off the image. Hope you don't mind what I did here. Just sharing my thinking. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted November 27, 2003 I like what dk did with the image. You are very brave to attempt a self-portrait. I've tried many and just can't get anything that I feel shows the real "me". You have inspired me to try again. Link to comment
emma 0 Posted November 27, 2003 Beautiful face...I REALLY like how dk softened it. Lovely young lady you are. Link to comment
1000wordsphotography 0 Posted November 29, 2003 Must agree with comment above. Good work Lou Ann Keep growing. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted November 29, 2003 Lovely self-portrait, Lou Ann. I'm not sure about the crop at the top of the forehead, but it still looks fine. I would have given it sixes, but I think that dk showed some ways to improve it. Keep trying. They're really very good. Link to comment
neild 1 Posted November 30, 2003 Wow, how could I never have discovered you before?!!I agree with previous comments that this is the best of the four self-portraits you've put up so far (hopefully, you continue to do more?!). I do like the degrained version better, but this is just another technique of post-processing to learn (as I also must learn it!!).I like this one because of your expression - it appears much more natural than in the others, which is difficult when you are both the photographer and the subject/model!! The lighting is great (one of your others would have been nicer but for the flat lighting of the flash), and I even like the framing! (I normally prefer uncropped portraits, but this one is nice). I will look through your many photos soon (no time now, but thank you for dropping by at my portfolio!). Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted November 30, 2003 Great self portrait. This is the best of them so far IMO. I'm not sure I'll be doing anything similar as you and RITA are hard acts to follow! Link to comment
borniet 0 Posted December 2, 2003 Isn't it great to see the impact of our critique circle on other people too? Apparently you encouraged people to go ahead and try more self-portraits again! I can imagine, since this is a very good one indeed. I do like the cropped version someone else here prepared a little bit better, because it keeps the focus more to your face, which you captured so well here. Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted May 18, 2004 Terrific. I think this is best of the self portraits in your folder. Link to comment
michaelk 0 Posted September 6, 2004 Lou ann you have to get rid of the self portrait on your web site. With that flash it is not complimentary at all. Your pretty, show it off;-) Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 307 Posted September 23, 2006 This is the first time I see you Lou Ann! And I think I now know everything about you. I must add that in spite of so many dialogs, I didn't have an idea what kind of person you were. That's the power of the REAL PORTRAIT! And when it's a self portrait it talks much about the author's sincerity and all the other virtues! Cheers to that Milady! A deep bow! Link to comment
