vincentoiseau 83 Posted February 2, 2019 Blue-tailed damselflies are very common, at least where I live. The difference in appearance between male and female is easily noticeable (there is a photo of a male in my portfolio too). Although I have two dedicated macro lenses, I like the ease of use this setup (135 mm + macro ring) provides. Your comments are very welcome. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted February 4, 2019 Exceptional macro, Vincent. The transparency of the damselfly's wings is entirely obvious; the detail of the vegetation below isn't lessened at all. As I would expect from a superior macro image, the detail here is so sharp that I would liken looking at the image is comparable to a view afforded by a electron microscope (as I would surmise). - - My best always, michael Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted February 4, 2019 Hi Michael, thanks for your interest in my photos! The sharpness of this shot is quite alright if you consider the fact that it has been shot with a lens from around 1970 in combination with a macro ring (the smallest size). A small aperture (half a stop between f 11 and f 16) still provides some depth of field with this combination without suffering from diffraction. The leaf is in the same plane as the insect's body, which explains the seemingly large DoF. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted February 4, 2019 Thanks for there explanation, Vincent. Given the macro equipment you used, I find the image even more impressive! Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted February 9, 2019 Just excellent Vincent and I like the comments between you and Michael, it helps all of us learn. The details and the clarity are really good...................Best Always, Holger Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted February 9, 2019 Hi Holger, this was a shot for which I chose to use the combination of a 135 mm lens and a macro ring above a dedicated macro lens because you get more DoF, which gives you more freedom in your composition. Thanks for your very nice comments! Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
