Ladybugs looking for mates

ted turner

I hiked to the top of this peak and found tens of thousands of ladybugs mating. I had my PN-11 extension tube (52mm), which I attached to my 180mm lens. But I was not carrying my monopod or tripod. I was bummed. I really wanted more depth of field. I had to handhold my shots with the long lens and under low light conditions. Still, I have never seen anything like this. The ladybugs were everywhere.

Ted, this is a wonderful photo and your description makes it even more amazing. its quite clear at the focus point, and the shallow depth of field adds texture, i think. the light and dark create a very pleasing, mysterious mood. my only wish is that the wood (?) were not so cold a color. Consider taking out some of the blue.
