Diamaru, a store in Melbourne, built over an old Shot Tower, now closed.

The Shot Tower is old and the covering very new, could not help thinking the contrast was interesting.

I stood there with everyone else, and watched as they took pis at eye

level, and thought of the expanse above, fited my 28mm lens and took

this pic. To add a bit of interest, added lens flair to the existing

solar bright spot already in the pic. Comments ?

Roger, although I think you've put this together really well with respect to composition, I can't bring myself to give it a good mark for originality as it is identical to what every other tourist/photographer has ever taken in Melbourne Central...

Yes, you are right, and I feel lucky to be on the same page with some of these photographers ! Often, we miss the things in our own backyard, while we travel the world to be "inspired"

Roger... reading back over my comment I may have been a bit too harsh and too blinded by my familiarity with the angle to mark you on my usual criteria for 'Originality' (ie. can I see any logical or creative thought process behind the photo). I guess my comment shouldn't be interpreted as a reason to not take the photograph... the solid composition of the photo, which is more important here, still stands up on it's own!

(or maybe I was just in a bad mood because of that damn Johnny Wilkinson beating the Wallabies)!

Andrew, you were correct, in everything, and I had a view of your work, which is original and bright, and YES, very sorry about the Wallabies !!Damn.....(The "travel the world" comment refered to me!....By the way)Smiling

I viewed your photo for so long it became like a tunnel to me and the objects within appeared to be traveling through.

Probably an after affect from my high school days. I love the lines and the angle with which you took this. I have seen it before on PN but the contrast/lighting was working well for you.

Lived in the 60's but don't remember much of it, do remember having a studio strobe set at home, and on certain days, when properly altered, could lie down, fire off full power on all three heads, and the retained image would seem like your legs would go down into the floor when you sat up !!!!?....."strange days, indeed !"

I like the soundness of the composition, it gives the idea of height and the lines of ceiling move the eye toward the black disk.

I like very much the nearly monocromatic effect.

I don't like very much the adding of the lens flare, it seems a little bit too false, but it's just my 2 cents.

Roger, I wouldn't have known this was a 28mm shot, and the lens flair is integrated in a such a subtle way as to be almost imperceptible but aesthetically enhancing. The composition gives me a wonderful sense of balance with pleasing tones and color.
