I am having real difficulty deciding what this is meant to be. There are four competing elements which do not make any kind of sense to my eye.

I can’t decide if your comment is designed to enlighten me, make yourself feel creatively wise, or just slam my picture. I think it is clear to even the causal observer that what you find to be competing senseless elements that your eye is having difficulty making sense with = are simply noncompeting elements of summer by the bay.

The comment was not posted to make myself feel creatively wise or slam your image. You invited a comment and it was honestly and sincerely given without any ulterior motive. May I suggest that if you are not happy with a fair comment that you not invite comments in the first place?

I recently posted on another website and asked for comments on the image. Three people responded and I learned something more about my photography. The comments were a mixture of positive and negative but the important point is that I learned something.

Frank – Sorry. You were the 1st comment I ever got. Just when you think you’re hot – someone says cool down boy. I did not know the invite the comment feature was on. I agree about learning and getting better through constructive criticism, dream slayer. As well as beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I seen a little of your work and noticed you stay with a straight photograph approach as apposed to my crops and multi layered images and transparences madness. Please do not stop writing in! I will look forward to your comments, I will not mouth off, and try to learn outside of my own mind’s eye…Howie

It is very easy to get protective about our images as they are after all part of us and when we get some criticism it can be a jolt to the system. I have created some real turkeys in the past especially when I was a film only photographer. Your other images are fine so don't let me put you off.

The image I commented on has an old ship in the background and old ships are a favourite of mine. Could you share an image of it?
