Oooooh, I really like this, James! Great DOF, color - goddamn you do good color, my skin tones never look this good - the tight compostion - very cool. I'd like a print of this one.

One thing: is she wearing glasses? Whats the little thing on the corner of her face?

You really have to tell me how you get skin tones so nice...

I think she is wearing glasses and if I look really hard, I can see you in them. Thats kinda cool!

thanks Amy -

I think the image I'm attaching more clearly reveals the rest of her face.

I used macro focus on her face to get dof with the cool pix. It's the only way I've been able to create that dof withou resorting to faking it in photoshop.

Skin tones are aided by the flash, and setting the white balance for that. Then it's just tweaking them by the numbers in PS, using curves and the info palette.

I often default to Dan Margulis's formula ('Professional photoshop')and strive for at least as much yellow as magenta in the skin tones, and up to 25% more, keeping the cyan low - about a fifth to a third as heavy as the magenta depending on how bronzed the person is.

Throw a de-saturation adjustment layer in the mix to kill a little of the blown out colors that my 950 produces, and I get lucky once in a while.

Thanks for the note, and congrats on your upcoming show

keep going. You're getting the idea of mystery and place. PS the first picture is several notches higher than the second.

James--

I really like this and admire your courage in posting bondage pix despite a number of "uh . . . it's not my cup of tea" comments and worse.

This is just about my favorite in this folder. The lips and the DOF trick make the shot; the rope bondage is softer. I've done the DOF trick inadvertently on my Coolpix 885 a few times but hadn't considered it a trick yet.

I'd like to see two things--some more light in the shadows and more emotional involvement. You look a little detached. I'd like to see more emotional involvement, whether on a partcipatory or aesthetic level. Maybe some domme pix will work? Best, Kelly
