Snorkel Hawaii (Best Large)

vincetylor

www.hawaiianphotos.net/kauaiphotos.htmTaken at a secluded sliver of beach called Hideaways on the Northshore of Kauai. Initially I wanted to wait until the snorker was out of the scene. However, once he was closer I kind of liked having him in there. Any thoughts?? Your comments and opinions are always appreciated. www.hawaiianphotos.net/Kauaitours.htm

The snorkler makes the photo more interesting. One suggestion: the border is too thick, its a beautiful image but the border is distracting

Well-done! Really wish the blurred leaf on the right didn't capture so much of my attention, but it is most-certainly a keeper. :o)

Thanks for the nice and helpful comments. I do consider all suggestions. I'll add that initially my plan was not to photograph on this day, but to take my wife to this place and do some snorkeling ourselves (which we in fact did....later). At the last moment I decided to bring the F-5 and just two rolls of film...one of Provia 100 and Velvia 50. As soon as we got here I could only think of shooting! Fortunately, I used the provia first, because I did not find this particular spot (inside of the foliage) until after the Provia and midway through the Velvia. I can tell you this..the Velvia just shined! No contest. I have recently been back to this place and this time shot a solid seven rolls from here and about ten other vantage points. There are some other nice ones that I will eventually finish editing and post here. But from this exact spot having the snorkeler right where he is with the colorful blues will be tough to beat!

We have over 100 images that sell in our Hawaiian print line...this one is probably in the top five and sells on all islands. Thanks again for the thoughts. Aloha!

You are truly the master of tropical landscapes. As almost everybody has said, the snorkeler adds interest to the shot. Normally, I also do not prefer humans in landscapes, but some exceptions really stand out. This is one of them. It's indeed amazing you captured this with Velvia during midday. From now on...no more experimenting with other films.

Yes, the snorkler was a plus. I love how you framed this shot with the palms. I felt the same way you did, about the surfer walking through my shot, and then I said to myself, wow, slow down, hold up there!

THIS IS A GREAT PICTURE, HOWEVER YOU POSTED IT BEFORE. WHAT ARE LOOKING FOR? IT IS NOT A NEW PICTURE, AND YOU KNEW IT'S BEAUTIFULL. LOOKING FOR FAME?

Interesting comment Pawel!

I posted this almost a year ago. I also re-scanned this at 200 meg (for our large print line) and sharpened it much more carefully than the first one. Once you over-sharpen an image, it is nearly impossible to repair as effectively as just starting over and sharpening correctly. I have personally always enjoyed this image, and do want it to be posted so I made a point of doing just that! Big Deal! But then again, now that I have achieved my claim to fame (as you assert) now I can finally rest in peace and no longer need to post ever again!....

Vincent,

You got me wrong! I enjoy this picture a lot... As you probably noticed I've been watching your work for a while... otherwise I wouldn't know this picture has already been posted. I admire you and the work you do. My previous comment was probably ridiculous. Sorry about it. Maybe I had a bad day that made me post this silly comment, or maybe I've seen to many people doing weird stuff on photo.net.

Regards

Well, the person snorkling adds the necessary interest. I like the way the dominant lines frame the person. Personally, I'd rather see this without the foliage - especially the very out of focus stuff on the right but it does lend a nice sense of place.

Okay this is a great image - I gave it a 7/6. If it wasn't snowing outside today I may have given it a 6/6 - but this just looks too good on a cold day like today. Great job.
