Long distance shot with Nikon F5 and Nikon 600mm4.0 AF-S lens and 2x teleconverter, Mounted on Gitzo tripod. Exposure was 1/500 of a sec at f/8,Film used was Fuji Velvia 100F pushed 1 stop.

Congratulation on an extraordinary photo. The first I think I ever seen of a breeching whale parallel to the waves. With something like this, you usually only get once chance. You made the most of it. --jim

Saw the thumbnail and it's less than great, but full size ... To say much more than "Majestic creature, nicely captured" would be nit picking.

My first thought was....how did he get that shot from a moving boat? You managed to capture the sharpness of the whale itself, while giving your viewers the feeling of movement with all of the splashing water...well done, Bill!

absolutly stunning and great clarity. with that much lens one has a habit of getting atmospheric haze. congrats on a onece in a life time amazing dream shot. i'm at a loss for words now........

I hope to someday put my name at the bottom of a shot like this...or to even get to see a sight like this. Great Capture. Time for me to shop for some equipment. I don't think my G3 would pull this one off. :-)
