Beautifully done photo. The main thing I see and feel is the expression of each. You have elicited and conveyed the child's vulnerability and strength and the man's easy directness. I think your choice of cropping in tight in this case works toward an intimate portrait of the two of them. The dof expands the small space in which the photo works its charms. The man's eyes are directly on me and yet softened by the blur. There's a tenderness to found both in the expressions themselves and the photographic handling of the subjects. The lighting is natural, easy, and flattering, providing a subtle glow without demanding too much attention. The sepia toning seems to work as it provides an appropriately earthy accompaniment. Very nice!

Aside from Fred's comprehensive analysis of this image, with which I totally agree, I will address one more consideration. I find the image to be honest, authentic. It clearly was not shot in a studio, and even though the subjects are in close proximity to each other, their pose doesn't seem at all contrived. Philippe could have smoothed the skin, especially the boy's, but opted not to do so. I congratulate him on a fine photograph.

A photograph that strikes with contrast between the emotions on the two faces. Uncertainty and even anxiety in the boy's eyes is juxtaposed with the całm and reassuring look of the man in the background. The scene may encourage reflection on the passage of time and how it affects our emotions and feelings. The tight crop seems the right decision though I would go even further and cut off proportionally the bottom and the right part of the frame a bit. I'm not the fun of sepia or sepia-like filters but Fred gives a good reason to use it here. A well thought out work, congratulations to Philippe.

Simply: extraordinary. One of a kind. Trying to analyze it would probably unnecessarily dissect it's magic. Superb! Telling, compelling, powerful and grabbing. Technically insuperable. Congratulations. DG
