The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

margaret_s.

This in an addition to the fantasy/fairy-tale series. This image reminds me of C.S. Lewis' book entitled "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" from the Narnia series where the characters undertake a voyage on the Caspian Sea...

Wow! An incredible sunset with amazing streaks of color. Perfect placement of the romantic-looking sailboat. Very appropriate to illustrate a fantasy/adventure/fairy tale.

I like what you have done with this composition. It's just altered enough to give it a dreamy mood, but not so much as to have made it too "fake". Nice job!

I love the colors and the mood Margaret. The sea is calm but the sky seems tense. Is it a gathering storm? Beautiful and strong image. My only small reservation is the faint ghosting along the sail.

Hello Margaret! The sky and composition are sure winners. No doubt about it. Actually, I like the halo around the sail; it invokes more of the "fairy-tale" magic about the boat. But the abrubt level changes in the water are somewhat more disconcerting. As long as the gamma level is low, it's not too obvious. But it becomes vey noticeable as the gamma is increased. Perhaps you could try fading that more. Just my thoughts. Regards.

Thank you everyone for your nice comments! I really appreciate it.

Digitri, the softening around the sail was intentional as Walter says.. to create a fairy-tale feel. The sky was not stormy, it just had a spectacular formation as the sun was setting!

Walter, the abrupt changes you refer to are where my brush stopped burning because it was too dark to tell at that point. There's nothing wrong with the image and it's supposed to be viewed at this level of brightness (or darkness in this case!) :)

Felix, no it wasn't a long exposure. I can't remember what it was.. probably around 1/125 or so? As I explained above, they just had this fantastic shape.

Thank you all again for your feedback :)
