Before The Ice

saratogatravel

Photo was taken shutter priority (1 sec.) with a tripod. Still looking for late fall scenes and came across this small stream. My approach this time was to get in close and capture all the details. The combination of water, fall leaves, rocks and moss seemed to work for this. I think the photo really does a great job of capturing this diversity of detail and colors. Comments and feedback are always appreciated.

Your thought of getting close was a good one; its a very nice picture! As there are such scenes now in the Smoky Mtns near my home which I'd like to capture even remotely as well as you did, I'm curious about your choice of shutter priority. My inclination would have been to pick apeture priority to insure maximum depth of field, and let the flowing water do whatever. How did you decide on 1 sec. shutter speed? Using digital, you may have had more opportunity to experiment than us film dinosaurs.

The look of the water is what I work on first. I picked shutter speed because the water looks smoothest past 1 sec. though you can have a decent effect down to 1/4. From there I can see where I stand on aperture. In this case it worked great because I got great DOF. As you said by being digital I can take dozens of pictures to get the effect and framing I want. Thanks for asking.

Winter was approaching rapidly when I saw this small stream. I

really tried to capture all the detail of this little falls. The

water, rocks, moss and leaves all added up to a lot of details in a

very small area. I think the photo really captures the beauty

present even in small areas of nature. Your feedback is welcome and

appreciated. Thanks for all the great comments.

Nice of you to stop by again. Sorry my work is so boring to you and oh by the way the falls is not centered. Draw a line down the middle. Most of the falls is left of that line.
