ciofalo 0 Posted November 3, 2003 Usually we expect a setting sun to be glowing red, and crowned by red or pied clouds. A white sun, surrounded by grey clouds, setting behind a lurid sea (with a forlorn gull silhouetted against bluish foam) upsets our expectations and is perceived as disappointing. I am aware that a large majority of sunsets are actually like this; this poses the interesting problem of why we epitomize sunsets by what appears to be a tiny minority of them, and hardly find beauty in the commoner ones. This image might be called "a real sunset - for a change". Link to comment
