There's something that screams about this photo. The plastic, made-up, airbrushed artificiality kind of takes over the humanity of the scene, though my eyes make a point of zeroing in on the two dark masses in the bus shelter because I know that's where the real story is, the other more attention-grabbing story being just a kind of chastity belt I have to get past.

There have been a few photos recently of graffiti with some discussion by folks of the evils of urban graffiti. I tend to defend it, though not when it's obviously just a case of vandalism. In many cities, there might be some colorful graffiti, say, in a nearby parking lot. From a purely expressive and aesthetic level, I'd rather look at that graffiti than advertising like this which I'm bombarded with all day long. Talk about ruining the landscape. Look at how sweet and warm and moody and atmospheric this scene would be WITHOUT the bright movie poster.

And that for me, is where the expressiveness and tension in this photo lies and why it's a good photo. You obviously captured or created this great contrast which I think not only shows something but emphasizes something very vital about contemporary life.

The visual contrast hits me immediately. On the one hand you have a bright, airy, smiley and warm image on a billboard surrounding by doom and gloom. Perhaps the later is a bit strong with my choice of words  but that was the feeling this conveyed. The absence of people outside and the dress of the people in the bus stand tells me that it is quite cold. Could this be a reflection of our world today?
