Beautiful sunset. I would consider cropping the right side so that the plank in the water comes directly out of the corner.

Nice colors. Square crop works well with this image.

I would not crop as this would destroy the half-circle that the light rays create in the upper portion of the image which imo set the tone for this photo. Rather, I would clone out the plank if it's a distraction instead. However, I do like the image as is. The only thing I might have experimented with is slight angle variations to see how those two posts off the pier might have affected the composition..

Really nice moment, Tom. I suspect that this shot having come from a 10D, this is virtually full-frame, no?

 

I'm torn on cropping out the plank. If you crop, it looks great, if you don't, it still looks great, but... I think this is one shot that, if it were mine, I'd have to put up on my refrigerator in both iterations (cropped and not), and see which one I liked better in a couple of weeks.
