I don't know why but my imagination associates this image with

Halloween. These red leaves resembling me some strange faces

appearing from the dark and lighted by the flame. I know, that part

of viewers will say "too dark", maybe, but I like it and it looks

fine on my monitor. The original shot was too boring for me and I

modified it slightly to get what you see. What I did, just increased

brightness, contrast, and decreased curve settings. Something what we

do in dark room choosing exposure, photomaterials, filters etc.

Original frame is attached below. Your comments are greatly

appreciated

Hi, I love the leaves. However, the void in the middle of the picture seems to take something away from the overall effect. I wonder if it better if one of the leaves is emphasized.

Isn't it great that opinions are all so subjective? I LIKE the darkness overall, and especially in the center...it is an abyss that the leaves seem to be tumbling into. The enrichened colors are beautiful, and the black frame you used adds to the overall effect.

I had a dream last night that suddenly Everyone on my list of "friends" was named AZ. Horrors!{LOL}

Leon and Linda, thanks for your feedback.

Leon, you might be right, it would be balanced better with e.g. one more leaf in the center. However, I captured what Mother Nature offered to me at that moment. Maybe I'm wrong, but I decided that too much order would be more boring. I also think that the leaf on the top is highlighted (due to size and color) more than others.

Linda, I noticed on recent TRPs a couple of 6s for aestetics from *real AZ*. Probably, s/he also was terrified (lol).

Well, what else can I say when I look at the ratings on this site... I'd really like to see at least a sample (even if it's not personal, a link to a picture or somthin') of what those that mark pictures with 3 and under 3 have in mind when they click on the rating menus.

I enjoy watching good pictures on this site but the scores really disappoint me (Im talking about rating others work, not mine, good or very good pictures). It seems that they (marks) are mostly random. I'd personally like to see more moderation here and more activity in the comments area. They'll give a clue of what the viewer have to say or suggest...

I'd also like to know what pleasure can find someone in ascribing low marks. Why spending time on a photo that you don't like. Just skip it.

Very good work to me on this one instead. I like the low light, the tones and the framing. I'm not sure about the red line in the frame though. I think it's better seen large.

Florin, thanks for stopping by and your nice comment. I've been posting since this Feb on this site and I don't worry too much about ratings anymore. Every photonetter that hanging around for a year+ knows that r*ng system on this site is a complete c*p. I'm pretty sure that this image deserves 5 for aestetics (or at least not less than 4) so I don't worry about low ratings. I've been posting mostly not to participate in *contest*, but to get meaningful critique. And I got lucky so far.

I appreciate your critique, I agree about that extra red frame, probably it was unnecessary here, I thought about it myself but I was in a rush and overlooked that.

I would strongly agree with the above comment on ratings. I've been a member of PN for almost 3 years, and the ratings are much more variable than they used to be. There's no way that this shot is below average. It's nicely composed with nice, deep rich colors. Good shot.

This one must be viewed in large format to fully appreciate. I actually like the thin, red frame surrounding the image. As I told Doug, these pictures of the fall colors really make me miss my home state of Tennessee. Fall tends to be very dull here in SW Texas.

Thanks for sharing, fellow AZ enthusiast. :)

Once again, thank you guys for stopping by to comment.

I'm especially thankful to AZ, I've learned that s/he gave me "5" for aestetics. It means that this image can be rated ONLY 5+ for aestetics. SHAME ON YOU DOWNRATERS! (LOL)

I will be the first to admit that I rate high. I find beauty in a lot of things and really only frequent photographers that shoot really impressive stuff. I have seen many ratings lately that I just don't understand. Things getting 7's that IMO are real low and things getting 4's that deserve 7's on my scale...

I love this image. I think the tones are so realistic. Not over or undersaturated and perfectly lit. I really, love this shot and can see it as a Thanksgiving shot for any card. Just a beautifully created image... Dave

This image is unusual in that it's been rendered quite dark for the subject matter. It's hard to see shadow detail, but I'm going to assume it is there. The composition has an interesting balance to it . . a sort of left/dark, right/light yin/yang feel to it. . . .a creative approach.

Wouldn't it be nice if you had to say something meaningful about the photographic qualities in order to rate . . . . . but then the whole forum would wither and die, I suppose. Nice image, Vlad. What a sad state of affairs. :-(

Thanks, folks for your nice comments. Let's set ratings aside, it's our most appreciated subject on PN.

Carl, I especially appreciate your feedback (my guess is that the picture I uploaded is a kind of abstract). Yes, JPEG 'eats' shadows, everything looks fine in TIFF. I tried to dodge shadows but disliked the resulting image, more light just killing the mood.

Ok, you've left this up for so long it's starting to 'grow' on me ......... (probably your plan to begin with). Can you have a partially hidden face in the leaves ? Although I suppose all you have now is snow - next year maybe.

Now upload some new stuff please ......... (-;

And Carl is right the darkness makes it more unique and the site needs a 'meaningful meter' for comments .......... !!

Ken, you mean *partially hidden* like this?.. As for new uploads...you know, I'm well-known mate-rater on PN, I know how to entrap raters/commentors. Finally, you are here too...You are absolutely right, to make 'em *grow* it's the best way to get extra ratings and posts even from those who doesn't like these certain images...OK, just will finish shoveling snow and check what I can upload, maybe some summer images.Or some eggs? Thanks for visiting.
