Rainbow, Silo, House on NC 801 II

I think this series would be more interesting with closer attention / cropping to emphasize the key element (and really, reason for the picture) the rainbow.  Probably just me.

Thanks, Sandy.  The rainbow caught my attention and made me stop the car, but what I fell in love with was the entire spread--not something I got, but I did like the way the big farmhouse was nestled in the trees.

The composition caught my eye. I do think the rainbow plays an interesting though minor role in the picture, kind of a cameo. I'd be interested in knowing what time of day this was shot and a few of the technical details.

Thanks, Jack.  For this particular shot, the lens was set at focal length = 16mm (wide angle).  I haven't been using a tripod much recently, but I did have the ISO set at 800.  The shutter speed was 1/640 sec and the aperture was f/4.5.

 

My own feeling was that the shot could have benefited from some foreground lighting from the sun, and so I had to work with levels, etc. in PS to try to get it from looking too muddy.

 

The dark sky combined with the rainbow being the only thing getting direct light gave the impression of a very bright rainbow--not obvious here, since I actually partially desaturated this version.  Before I did that, the rainbow looked unnaturally bright.

 

The shot was made 30-35 minutes before sunset.
