Softer (more difussed) lighting may have helped,

to minimize the hard shadows under the nose, upper and lower

lip, cheek, eyes, etc. You may also consider a back light to soften or eliminate the background shadow.

I like it. I can't help think that there is some detail missing from the black dress but it's difficult to tell whether there is any there to capture. The shadow behind is offputting. The hand hovering over the leg looks a little awkward - the positioning of hands in portraits is often something which you can learn a lot by looking at well known portrait specialists.

It's a nice image - I like the tonality.

It is a great shot, tho i find i'm in agreement that the "hovering" hand is a tad distracting....looks like she should be holding a martini glass or cigarette holder....

very nice, still!

A nice shot though I do find the background shadow a tad distracting. I would have put a light against the background but that's just my opinion...which may not mean much! A nice pose and I do like the black dress.

I rated it somewhat low on asthetics becuase the lighting is poor. good model, and good pose, but the lighting makes her look as though she has facial hair or something. sorry i don't mean to be mean, but i would think you would want TRUE first reactions, so you can change the work, so noone else has the same bad reactions.

My first impression of this is that it is quite beautiful, but I guess if I knew anything about portraits I could pick it apart till the cows come home. I do think the right hand is a little "lost". And the left one looks like she just painted her nails, and is letting them dry, careful not to brush them against anything.
