This is a wonderfully dramatic photo (I guess I like lone-tree photos), and I think the black-and-white treatment is perfect for it--colors here would detract from the impact. Two elements are a bit distracting, though. First, it may be useful to reduce the vignetting a bit--the image is inherently dramatic enough that it doesn't really need it. Second--and this may be a lot more difficult to deal with, depending on the format of the original frame--it would be nice if the horizon could be made horizontal. If the image hasn't been cropped, this would lead to some tough decisions: the grass in the bottom center I think is important to the image, and it would be reduced, and the image may need to be cropped on the right to leave sky above the tree, and that would seriously detract from the image's impact. Depending on what software you're using for post-processing, you may be able to stretch-transform the righthand side of the image slightly to "create" more sky there, and this would allow the straightening without requiring a crop from the side (but remove the vignetting first so it doesn't complicate the transformation). Cloning would also work in a pinch with an enlarged canvas, but it's difficult to keep the sky's tonal gradient smooth--stretching is a lot easier. Another advantage to straightening the horizon is that it would lean the tree over the chasm a bit more--even more drama.

Leslie,

Thank you for the comments. Yes, I should have been a bit careful about the horizon. I will try what I can do..

i did not do any vignetting. Interesting that it looks that! The one thing I did work on was tone of tree.
