I think that the larger view is better. The benefit of focusing on places close to home is that I can visit more regularly. I visited this location 2 days ago and was not happy with the results.

Wow, the lighting and motion are perfect.  The dark object makes me think a ginormous grasshopper is caught in the current.  Really good stuff... Mike

I fully agree with the advantage of having places nearby to photograph.  I bike through the same woods all year round and believe me, it can change from day to day, depending on the seasonal patterns of growth, time of day, sky condition, wind, etc.  You almost never get the same shot twice in a row. Nice colors and textures in this shot btw.

I totally agree. Sticking close to home is less expensive and it makes you look really hard for something different. Glad you liked the image.

I spent about an hour at this single location shooting and looking at the light change. Here is one I shot about twenty minutes earlier which has a completely different character

The colors and the texture of the water are really beautiful.

More like a trapped lobster rather than a ginormous grasshopper to me Mike.

Keep on shooting Tony.

Tony,  Not an easy shot by all means, but you've managed to get the movement of the flow with its different fluidities really well. I also like the gentle touches of sun lighting and general composition.

Thanks. Now only if I could develop a mathematical model of why this image seems to be likable.

Thanks. The challenge was using a slow shutter speed to get the effect on the water as displayed here but trying to capture the log sharply. For subsequent shots I increased the ISO which allowed me to use a faster shutter speed. The plan was to overlay the end portion of the tree trunk with the sharp image. In the end, I decided against all of that potential processing to go with this single unprocessed (some local contrast adjustment was done) image.

Patsy - it was flowing quite quickly and had to experiment with different shutter speeds to get this one.

AJ - thanks for telling me which you prefer.

Charles - Thanks. I guess you must be busy with exhibitions.
