James G. Dainis 301 Posted April 10, 2016 I find it hard to believe that at 1/30 sec there would be no motion blur on that lead cyclist. At a speed of only 20miles per hour he would travel about 30 feet in one second. At 1/30 sec shutter speed he would have moved about one foot from the time the shutter opened to when it closed. Was this a set up shot where the cyclist stood there and when the other cyclists appeared then he tilted the bicycle for the photographer to take the shot? It also looks like editing was used to blur the background, the trees and crosswalk lines. Link to comment
cliffb 0 Posted April 10, 2016 Thank you for your thoughts, James. Yes, this was shot at 1/30 second, and no blurring was added in post-processing. Both the relative lack of blur on the lead rider and the heavy blur in the background are the result of simple panning with the lead rider. Nothing was set up. It was shot during an actual race. James G. Dainis 301 Posted April 10, 2016 I should have thought more about panning. I can see how panning to keep the rider in the same position in the viewfinder would would cause the other riders and background to be blurred. He must have been coasting and not pumping his legs.Good job and a fine photo. Link to comment
