Nature's Painting

saratogatravel

Picture taken at the end of fall foliage season. Shot in aperture priority hand held. As always, I was looking for ways to combine the colors of fall with other images. I came across this old barn and everything seemed to work to produce this almost watercolor looking image. I did leave the image a little soft to add to that effect.

Tom: You found a very good combination of complementary saturated colors. The building's lines and neutral tones are pleasing, and nicely off-center. This is a classic! The only slight weakness might be an overall lack of sharpness. I'm guessing it was handheld at a longer focal length setting.

Fantastic... love those Autumn colours and the old building breaks the scene up nicely.

balanced and looks as if it has been slightly posterised which works well.

The little white spot in the grass below distracts the eye so could be easily cloned out?

One last shot at fall color. I was trying to combine the fading

fall color with other images. This one came out very well as it

combined the fall colors with the lines and angles of the old barn.

It came out looking almost like a painting even though I really did

nothing to produce this effect except I did not sharpen the picture

in PS. Your feedback is always appreciated.

The high level of saturation doesn't give a sense of realism, but I like the effect anyway. Would you mind posting a less-saturated version? I'm guessing that it would be worthy, too.

I really like the colors in this picture. I'm drawn to how well the colors of the shingles on the roof are brought out by the foliage.

I appreciate all your comments. To address the two main comments. The picture was hand held and from a distance. This I think made the picture a little less sharp and I did no sharpening because I liked the effect. I took the same picture with better light and a little sharper and I did not like it as much. About the only adjustment I made was a pretty minor levels adjustment which did saturate the bright colors. I will post in my folder the same picture with less levels adjustment and sharpened. I don't know how to post the picture here. Again thanks for your comments.
