This is a real beauty, Jeff. The picture has a great sense of place and immediately caught my interest even before I realized it was one of yours. So many nice details, from the woman carrying the container on her head in the distance to the girl peeking out of the back of the truck to the two boys sitting idly on the curb. All I can say is I'm greedy and I want to see more, more.

Jeff,   My eyes are drawn to so much -- the truck just about inside a triangle of people on the street... not a  sentimental photo, though quite poignant in the unfairness, particularly with the little child looking back.   The wires running every which way and like roof of frenetic activity, a closed in mood with a lot of movement, anticipation of hard lives... the tones, the mood, the composition and details makes a great street scene.  I wonder what it felt like to be on that street as an outsider.

This is special because it shows how people make do with what they have.  The little one looking out seemed so intense.  This was taken in a village (Santiago, I think) on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.

My kids are Mayan and although very "American" (whatever that means), they seemed quite connected to their birth country.  I did not feel like an outsider as much as extended family, given our deep roots to the country and its people through our children.  We were treated with utmost kindness.  Several times, people told us in Spanish "thank you for caring for our children."  Now that felt weird, since our desire to parent these kids was not out of any sainthood that my wife or I possess.

First - What a great Toyota advertisment could be done from this image.

Second - I've never been in South America but if I imagine what a wonderful and amazin place it should be is because of images like this.

Third - Love it.

ricardo
