AlainD 0 Posted February 28, 2016 Thanks to all of you for your nice words!Mike: all eagle images posted in this folder were shot 2 weeks ago in Rausu, a fishing village in a quite remote part of Japan. As you can see on the web, this village is a famous spot for photographers to shoot eagles on drift ice during "boat tours". Eagles and drift ice both come from Russia in the wintertime. The reason why there are so many eagles around Rausu is that fish is thrown to them every morning. That's a strange experience, a bit more "wild Disney" than wild life photography... As there was no drift ice 2 weeks ago, and also because the weather was quite bad, the boat had to stay for a long time along a jetty inside Rausu harbour. Many eagles were standing on this jetty and flying around. Most photographers there had 100-400mm or 300mm lenses. Using my 500mm was quite tough because the eagles were often too close or flying too fast. The one on the picture above was flying just beyond the jetty, against the strong wind (i.e. slowly) and as I was on the upper deck of the boat, the eagle and I were almost at the same level. The 7D II and 500mm together with the great light and snow made the rest. Link to comment
