jasonsmith894 0 Posted February 21, 2016 Went out to take sunset photos last night, and was met with a cloudless sky. There was some color near the horizon after the sun was mostly down, which I was able to capture. Any comments/critiques would be most appreciated. Link to comment
JeffBryce 0 Posted February 21, 2016 Nice exposure and composition. The horizon is slightly tilted right. I find it odd that the moon is so large considering the lens used-- almost like it is a double exposure or pasted in. Also, there are banded rings throughout the sky which can be caused by filters, and there is a tiny spot in the center water by the horizon that you may want to clean up. luxborealis 0 Posted February 21, 2016 You have some very strong elements here, but I much preferred the simpler composition of the B&W version at this location, with the clouds and no moon. But this has great potential, too.Simplify by cropping the foreground - it does nothing for the feeling of the photograph. OR - choose a composition without the foreground distractions.Clone out the black structure/shoreline on the left. OR choose a composition without it.Crop the top 1/3 of the sky to balance the rest OR choose a composition without it.Simpler is stronger. Link to comment

jasonsmith894 0 Posted February 23, 2016 Thanks to all for the comments. I did take a separate image of the moon to retain detail, but I replaced it as it appeared in the original image (i.e., in the same location). I did, however, use a longer focal length for the moon image, which explains why it is exaggerated. I understand why the foreground and pier to the left over complicates the image. I like the foreground elements, but may try to simplify the image. I will repost after I re-work the image. Thank you again to all who provided feedback. The comments helped me see the image difderently. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted March 18, 2016 I like the composition a lot and really have no problem with the moon. The horizon needs a tad straightening and I would crop a part of the empty sky above the moon. I like the old pilings leading a viewer's eye diagonally through the frame Link to comment
hstelljes 41 Posted March 18, 2016 Great POD Jason, congrats. The composition is perfect and your overall treatment of the image reflects time spent and your skill in PP as well as with the camera. Another beautiful offering.BR, Holger Link to comment
