Double Arch-Polaris at Midnight

chapmanwr

This piece of filmed was exposed once over a two hour period near midnight. Since it was during the dark of the moon, it was pitch dark. The arch was lit with painted light from two different sources at the beginning of the exposure.

This image is one in a series of night scenes. This surreal scene is

from one exposure of two hours around midnight during the dark of the

moon. Looking due north, the arch was lit by painted light from two

differnet sources near the beginning of the exposure.

Can anyone say National Geographic!?!

Excellently executed. Can you share any more of the details regarding the exposure technique?

William, really nice shot. I do have a complaint, though: you didn't scan it in large enough that we could get a good look at it.

That being said, show-stopper, sir. Good work.

I'm guessing you used a fairly high powered source like the Vector 3 million candle power that I use. I'm also guessing you diffused the light initially, then used the spot on the central areas.

Your choice of film is interesting. I'm inclined to use Tungsten film when the sky is exposed for long periods, but I don't really find the greenish cast as objectionable in your image as in many others I've seen.

Yet another masterpiece that would deserve a better scan, and I see more of them in this folder. Do yourself a favor: get good scans ! You are obviously an excellent photographer, you deserve it. Regards.
