This composition is wonderful in so many ways:

  • the slightly bumpy mass of the rock going from upper right to lower left...
  • echoed partially by the very straight climbing rope...
  • perfect placement of the climber, IMO
  • solid black mass of the rock contrasted with and balanced by the light textured skly

Thanks Steve! Yeah, it was just one of those lucky days out. Nice late afternoon light, rock climbers in an easily accessible place... I rarely use that Tamron zoom, but at 200mm and stopped down, it's actually pretty sharp. :>)

Nice tension in this shot (no pun intended) and I like the tonality of the sky. Interesting too how the clouds below him are darker and thicker - a good way to anchor the image visually.

Wonderful back light shot.

Regarding the composition, the position of the climber and of the mountain are too perfect.

Are you sure you haven't cropped the original photo?
