Chateau Frontenac and the colors of autumn.

gaetanchevalier

A magnificent castle-like structure with copper turrets and stone towers, Chateau Frontenac is more than 100 years old and it is a historic landmark of Quebec City. Situated on top of the Cap Diamant Cliffs in the heart of the old walled city. Chateau Frontenac overlooks the Saint Lawrence River.

The colors in the leaves are really beautiful. I am not too enthusiastic of the composition, and believe that a square format, obtained by cropping the low buildings, would concentrate the attention on the castle better (I know, this means losing some of the leaves, but still I think it advisable). What is a bit annoying is that part of the castle is covered - these leaves are struggling too much to steal the scene.

Classic but well done. It's a pity about the yellow flag and there's a tiny thing creeping in just on the horizon at left which would be better cropped out.

Interesting sky and the green roof adds to the overall colour/mood.

I think the title should be "Chateau Frontenac and the colors of autumn" (even though they are beautiful).

Gaetan I really like this shot. Colors are beautiful and I like seeing the three different aspects. cr

Very beautiful photograph. The sky, the golden maple leaves, the Chateau; all working together very well. I especially like the colors of the leaves against the sky. Good complements. Regards.

This is gorgeous.

My opinion: I agree with the cropped version. However, I like the original because it's horizontal..I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. ;)

I congratulate you for picking an exposure that kept the beautiful illumination of the right-side leaves and the top of the Chateau, while not losing detail in the dark bits (top-side leaves and lower row of houses).

In terms of colour, the contrast of orange leaves with blue sky and green roof is superb.

Thank Tom for your suggestion for cropping my photo. The result is excellent but I prefer my original because we can see more beautiful colors and the great light of this autumnal sun.

ça me fait peur ;-))

Gotta go with the cropped version that Tom posted. It focused the viewer's eye on the primary subject - the castle. I also have noted that, by choice or not, you don't correct perspective in your pictures, leaving the leaning angles (converging vertical lines). Since you take so many architectural shots, this should be an important area of interest for your post processing. As for this shot, the inclusion of the leaves makes for a perfect frame. Keep the faith and keep on shooting! :-)
