As for the blue cast I think it works, and it's caused by the subject being in open shade (the deeper into the shade the bluer it'll be, esspecially if it's after the sun goes below the horizon), which happens because the illumination is from skylight (blue) with no sunlight (yellow), were normally they'd mix to make neutral light. So almost cerntainly the light really was that blue, but your eye compensates so it looks normal, the same way it compensates under tungsten lights so they don't look orange, etc. Link to comment
