Is it odd that a Japanese person might be wearing a Panama hat?  Maybe the answer depends on the nature of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.  OK, enough of this bs.

This is an excellent example of the proverbial candid approach.  The behatted fellow looks like he might be doing something mundane or routine.  Or, perhaps his facial expression tells us he feels caught in the act.

Keep on keeping' on.

Jack, I see a kind of humor in this image. The hat is almost the big for the room in which he is busy. There is also a funny connection between the hat and the round object at the wall.

Apparently, he has noticed some news on the newspaper while doing something trivial. He has paused for an instant, unaware that a fan and Mr. McRitchie were on the watch...

Far too many words already to describe what is essentially a photographical haiku.

I think the repeating shapes work well.  The squares and rectangles of the boxes, trays, and newspaper.  The circular shape of the hat and fan.  His rumpled shirt with the rumpled towels on the wall.  And nice color to boot.
